What is the Difference Between Face Masks, N95, KN95, KF94, FFP2 Respiratory Face Masks & Face Mask Shields?
The swift spread of the corona-virus can be largely attributed to the fact that most people who infect others are unaware of their own infections. In fact, three different pieces of research show that half of the patients of corona virus did not show any symptoms, which led them to spread the virus to others in their proximity.
Due to this, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) has advised members of the general public to cover their faces with masks that can be made at home or purchased online. The cloth-based face masks can prevent the release of infection into the environment. This way, if an infected person sneezes or coughs in a public space, the infection would be limited. However, cloth-based and surgical masks are not recommended for members of the medical community. The surgical masks, although FDA (Food and Drug Administration) approved, are not safe for frontline healthcare workers. You can surgical masks if you are taking care of an infected person. You can purchase surgical face masks online. The surgical masks can protect the environment from the wearer instead of safeguarding the wearer from the environment. For this purpose, the respiratory masks are used.
There are different kinds of respiratory face masks that are available in different countries. Although the function of each respiratory mask is relatively similar, these masks differ in terms of the standards of the countries in which they were created.
The N 95 face masks- United States Standards
The N 95 face masks are manufactured in accordance with the US standards. The N 95. N100 and N 99 respiratory face masks are created, tested and approved by the standards of National Institute for Occupational Safety and Health (NIOSH). The NIOSH is an American agency that carries out research and evaluations to assure the safety of workers against injuries and illnesses.
The N 95 face mass cups securely around the face as it comes with a user seal check environment. This type of face mask filters out ninety-five per cent of all large and small (at least 0.3 microns in size) airborne particles.
NIOSH also approves the production of P 100 face masks, which can filter out 99.97% of 0.3-micron oil-proof particles.
The K N 95 Masks – China Standards
The K N 95 face masks are quite similar to the N 95 face masks, except they are created in accordance with the Chinese standards. The K N 95 face mask also filters out 95 per cent of 0.3-micron airborne particles. However, the key difference between the N 95 face mask and the K N 95 face mask is that the KN95 mask standard mandates a mask fit test on actual humans with ≤ 8% leakage, whereas the N 95 does not require a similar fit-test.
The KF94 face mask – Korean Standards
The face masks created in accordance with the Korean standards come in two different forms- KF 80 and KF 94. The differences between the two types of masks depending on their rate of filtration of airborne particles. The KF 94 can filter out 94% of particulate matter.
The FFP2 face mask- The European Standards
The masks created by the standards of Europe come in three categories. The FFP1 mask provides 80% of filtration, whereas the FFP2 provides a 94% of filtration- which is similar to the functioning of the N 95 mask. The FFP3 face mask has a filtration rate of 99%, which is parallel to the functioning of the N 99 face mask.
All in all, the different types of respiratory face masks have similar functions. The only difference is the standards according to which they are produced.
